HI:) I am 18 years old and i just wanted to let you know that your crew has inspired me soooo much and made me realize that “it’s kool to be kind”. I think you guys are amazing for paving the way for everybody in making them realize that by being kind, they’re making the biggest difference in the world. Me and a friend here, in the small town of Houston B.C., are having a free barbeque for everyone in the town and we are giving out free hugs hoping that people will pay it forward and do the same. Its great knowing that 6 years after your extreme kindness tour, you guys are still having an effect on the world…i know for a fact that you, Eric, Val, and Chris sure changed my life. I would love to meet you guys and I'm sure others from this town of 4000 people would like to too, but, i know that's totally out of the question so any advice that you have on how to make a bigger difference, please let me know...im so game. Thanks, you guys rock:)

Have you heard about the website Resort2Kindness, where you log-in nice stuff that you've done for other people or they've done for you and then sponsors give money to charities for all the kindnesses that have been logged! I think that's pretty cool!

ONE by Richard Bach, published 1988

Deeply moving, July 31, 2001
By Darthjal "Darthjal"

I read "Illusions" by the same author when I was 13 or so, and it opened my eyes to the fearful clinging and self-doubt that prevents so many people from reaching their full potential. Reading "One" twenty years later made me feel ashamed of the opportunities I had let slip past, and of the neglectful way I often treat my future self. It also renewed my resolve to take responsibility for my every dream, doubt, achievement, and failure. And it made me appreciate Richard Bach that much more for writing the two books that have most influenced my outlook on life.
Every choice you make in every moment of your life, whether it's your whim to smile at a stranger in an elevator, your last-minute decision to eat a healthy meal instead of an artery-clogging one, or your whim to read one book and not another affects more than your next few seconds or minutes or hours. It can affect your entire future and the lives of others. I missed this point when I read "Illusions"; "One" drove it home.

"One" isn't as tidy as "Illusions." It introduces a lot of ideas but doesn't follow through on some of them to the extent that "Illusions" did. You may find this either a blessing or a curse, depending on how much material you need before you can run with it on your own.

There's a lot more to the book than what I've mentioned. Some of it bored me and some of it even annoyed me, but that happens when we listen to our best friends speak with candor. Maybe it was something I already knew; maybe it was something I'm not ready to know yet; or maybe it was just plain wrong. Bach shares his soul generously and we're free to take it or leave it. What we learn, or fail to learn, from an experience is also a choice. What I learned in "One" may escape your notice entirely. What I failed to learn may be your epiphany.

Or not. Because everything in this review may be wrong. :-)

Dear Eric,
When your Dad and I spent 3 months in a Beetle in Europe together, his 3 sons and my 3 sons were not even fully developed gleams in our eyes. I am so grateful that this site allows me to get a glimps of one of his great triumphs. The strength & direction you give to compassion and kindness is inspiring, even to this old poet. Surely yours is the path to be taken. Keep up the fine mission. You are surely blessed to know such fulfillment. Merry Christmas.
Hugs to you Maggie and Wayne and the Bros. Peter
PS: When I got home from Europe in 64, my first love a Margaret too. However, mine was replaced.

looks like the site is a popular in class pick me up. I too am in lecture and with a long school year still ahead of me (currently a nursing student in classes until july) I frequently sit and search for an inspiring summer project of sorts.. find away to support a cause, give my time for greater good, something that I can dedicate a couple months too prior to starting my last year of school. I know there are lots of things I could take part in, and know you won't have the answer for me, but thought i would throw it out there for possible suggestion..
keep up the kind work, you are an inspiration!
